We see an extreme close-up of a very nice fountain pen
writing on quality paper. We see cursive scrawl out "MEET
ME", "10:30", "I LOVE YOU" as the camera pans across the
paper.
The paper is taken away and set back down folded with a
lipstick kiss.
DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. BENCH - NIGHT
The same lipstick kiss on the same letter is in the same shot
as before. The camera pulls back a bit to see a man's hands
unfolding it.
We slowly pan up to see a nice suit
CU - FEDORA LYING BESIDE HIM ON THE BENCH
We keep panning up to see the man's face, reading the letter,
eyes moving back and forth.
CU - THE MAN LOOKING UP BLEAKLY INTO CAMERA
XCU - MOUTH SMILING WARMLY (NO TEETH)
XCU - THE LIPSTICK LETTER SLIDING INTO A COAT POCKET.
We see the man stand, silhouetted against a streetlight, look
down and put his hat back on, button up his overcoat, and
start walking.
DOLLY - WALKING FROM FRONT
We see him walking, looking slightly down.
DOLLY - WALKING FROM BEHIND
We see him approach a large building.
He stops in front of the building where a WOMAN SELLING
ROSES stands.
XCU - CARDBOARD "LOVE FOR SALE - $5" SIGN
XCU - ROSE PETALS
XCU - THE WOMAN'S NOSE SMELLING A ROSE
He continues to the doors and pulls one open.
INT. BALLROOM ENTRANCE - SAME
DOLLY - WALKING FROM FRONT
The man enters the lavish entranceway and continue up the
stairs. He takes his overcoat off, revealing a fine suit, and
hangs it on a rack.
DOLLY - IN ON THE TICKET GIRL
We see a TICKET GIRL sitting at a desk with a cashbox in
front of her. She smiles at the camera as we close in on her.
XCU - TICKET GIRL'S EYES
XCU - TICKET GIRL'S SMILE (TOOTHY)
Over the ticket girl's shoulder, We see the man pay her and
slip his wallet back in his suitpocket. He looks above the
girl to the side of the camera.
DOLLY - WALKING FROM BEHIND
We see the man's back as he approaches some closed doors. As
he stops and starts to open one, we close in on his back,
going to black
INT. DANCE SPACE - SAME
We fade up to a hardwood-floored room filled with dancers
dancing.
SLOW DOLLY IN ON DANCERS, PARTING TO REVEAL A WOMAN
The woman is dressed nicely, wearing careful makeup with nice
jewelry. As we close in on her she looks at the camera and
smiles.
CU - THE MAN'S FACE
We brighten his face as he sees the woman and smiles the same
smile he had when he read the letter (no teeth)
LONG SHOT OF ROOM WITH WOMAN IN THE MIDDLE
We see the man emerge from the crowd to meet the woman in the
middle of the room.
He hands her the rose
XCU - THE WOMAN'S SHOULDER WHERE THE DRESS MEETS THE SKIN,
RUBBING THE ROSE ON HER NECK
XCU - THE MAN'S TIE AT THE NECK.
They embrace like they're about to start dancing. As they
stand there looking into each other's eyes, the other couples
make more and more room until it's just these two alone.
HANDHELD ROTATING AROUND THE COUPLE AS THEY TURN IN PLACE
DOLLY IN AS THEY TURN
LS OF HIM DIPPING HER, THEM SMILING
MS OF HIM DIPPING HER, THEM SMILING
CU OF HIM DIPPING HER, THEM SMILING
Still in dip position, they kiss.
