Topsy, Part 2
by Brian Miller.
FADE IN:

(Black and White, Set to music: "Topsy Part 2" by Cozy Cole)

We see a shot of a record player with a record spinning. A
slender female hand enters frame and puts the needle on the
record.

SFX: record fuzz

EXTREME CLOSE UP - A BLACK MAN'S MOUTH, COMPLETE WITH
MUSTACHE (A LA CITIZEN KANE) SAYING "TOPSY, PART 2"

INT. APARTMENT LIVING ROOM - DAY

We start looking down through the second floor window at a
bright sunny day.

we PAN over, past a TV, desk with a record player and stereo
on it, to see a TALL SKINNY WOMAN, strongly resembling a
groovy daddy-o sixties hep kitten with her fashion and
sunglasses, radiating sheik, standing near a bookcase and
holding a dust feather.

When the organ comes in, we see her start to dust.

CLOSE UP - ARM DUSTING THE TOP BOOKSHELF

Dusting with reckless abandon, and definitely to the beat.
She taps her foot, swings her hip, and swings her arm to and
fro while she does this, as she's listening to the song
herself (which she is).

With the organ solo we cut to a

CLOSE UP - THE HAND WITH THE DUST FEATHERS SWEEPING PAST AN
IMPOSSIBLY LONG SEQUENCE OF BOOKS.

The books are arranged in a descending pattern, which the
hand quickly flushes down, then a slow ascension which the
feathers kind of play over, then finally a sequence which the
hand jumbles over quickly.

BACK TO SCENE

The woman can be seen doing the whole foot tapping/hip
swinging/arm swinging motion as before.
As the drums come in, she finishes the bookcase and quickly
points to the window with her feathers. We...

WHIP PAN over to the window and out

EXT. PARKING LOT - SAME

ZOOM IN on an empty stretch of road, quickly taken up by a
UPS truck screeching to a halt.

THE MAN quickly hops out of his seat and jumps in the back.

We see him hit the pavement, package in hand and start
walking toward the camera.

The sun is high and bright as our man is sporting old-style
black sunglasses, waxed back hair, and a pack of cigarettes
rolled up in his already-short UPS uniform sleeve.

He lunges over a fence and onto a path which winds around a
grassy area in between apartment buildings.

He generally looks cool while doing so, executing spins and
little hop moves, basically loving the day (all along to the
drums of course).

He then stops in front of a building, noticing the big "23"
in front of the door. He then quickly looks at his UPS
clipboard.

CLOSE UP - "23" ON THE CLIPBOARD

CLOSE UP - "23" ON THE BUILDING

CLOSE UP - THE MAN'S FACE, EYES LOOKING FROM BUILDING TO
CLIPBOARD

EXTREME CLOSE UP - "2" ON BUILDING

EXTREME CLOSE UP - "3" ON BUILDING

EXTREME CLOSE UP - "2" ON PAPER

EXTREME CLOSE UP - "3" ON PAPER

LOW ANGLE SHOT OF MAN STEPPING FORWARD, OVER CAMERA

We now see him finally enter the door, only to be confronted
with stairs.

As the snare roll starts, the CAMERA swirls up the stairs
quickly as the man looks, then FOLLOWS closely as each shoe
pounds on the stairs.

We see his legs moving and moving up the stairs. Very
kinetic, much like the music.

He's almost there when...

LOW ANGLE FROM BOTTOM OF STAIR WELL

The man drops the package (in time with the low tom that
mixes in with the snare roll)

The man quickly turns tail and starts chasing it down, trying
to get it before it crashes to the bottom.

He snaps it up and rushes up the last few steps.

Now we go incredibly SLOW MOTION. As the snare finally peaks
at a fast roll, we see a

CLOSE UP (SLOW MOTION) - FIST GOING TO KNOCK ON A DOOR

As soon as he knocks (the snare roll ends) we cut

BACK INSIDE

the woman quickly turns from her bookcase, looking menacingly
at the door

SLOW CREEP IN ON THE DOOR

cutting back to show the woman closer and closer to the door
until finally

(with the horn riff) The woman asks something through the
door and peeps through the peephole and moving her head with
the horn

(with the drum riff) The UPS man answers something, holding
up the slightly battered box to the hole, and moving his head
with the drum.

(with the horn riff) The woman says something else through
the door, unlocking her chain lock

(with the drum riff) The UPS Man answers again, readying his
clipboard.

(with the final horn riff) The Woman says one final thing and
swings open the door

(on the first cymbal crash) The Surprised man's face (WOW!)

(on the second cymbal crash) The Surprised Woman's Face
(hubba hubba!)

they both compose themselves quickly then...

(with the horn) She takes the clipboard and signs it

(with the drum) He hands over the package and looks at the
clipboard

(when the soft horns come in) The Man takes a step inside,
his suave face on, clearly interested.

The woman takes a step back, smiling but being stern at the
same time.

(as the horns build) they move toward the center of the room,
the man being cool and the woman being coy.

(the crescendo) the man quickly comes in and kisses the woman
on the cheek.

(that WAAAAOOOW horn) The woman, a face of stunned shock!

BOOM! they drop everything and break into LINDY HOP like
nothing else, swinging around and grooving like nobody's
business.

A Spin Out, a Circle, then a Tuck Turn.

Then, with the return to The Woman's theme, she's pushing the
man back toward the door, pointing her finger into his chest.

The man's got his arms out and saying something.

Now, with each horn hit, she pushes him a little bit further
out the door, he's wildly trying to get something...
scrawling his fingers on his palm, making imaginary phone
calls, that sort of thing.

We see her coy smile as she finally gets him outside.

As she closes the door on him, we see her turn around and
smile to herself.

Now we see him Turn around from the closed door, defeated,
look down, and notice a card in his breast pocket.

CLOSE UP - THE CARD READING 'HOLLY - 123-4567"

He smiles.

FADE TO BLACK.
